Court of Protection and Deputyship

Our Court of Protection team is led by Veronica Cowdrey, who has many years of experience in dealing with all aspects of Court of Protection work. We cn deal with all applications to the Court of Protection under the new regime introduced by the Mental Capacity Act 2005, for example for one-off decisions by the Court concerning a client’s financial affairs or welfare issues, applications for the appointment of a deputy or, for approval of tax planning, gifts, settlements and statutory Wills.

Under the recently implemented Mental Capacity Act 2005, existing receivers will continue their duties and be called deputies. Zandra Houston has been a member of the Court of Protection's panel of professional receivers since its inception. This means that the Court of Protection can ask her to act as deputy in cases that come before them in circumstances where there are no suitable family members to take on this role.

The partners in the team also act as professional deputies in cases referred directly to us by the client’s family. We have financial and record keeping structures in place tailored for this type of financial management.
